Bad monday.. one of the worst monday that I’ve ever had

September 11th, 2007 by juliantwk

Yesterday,
was yet another terrifying moment for me, and especially my wife whom suffered
from an ordinary cold into a some kind of palpitation. It didn’t happen
instantaneously, but in fact gradually from morning 10-11am++ to afternoon
3-4pm++. Initially, she felt like the heart seems to beat faster, and resulting
some cold sweat on the palms. But as time passes by, the beating became faster,
and turned into seizure. I rushed her to the same clinic that we seek
consultation earlier in the morning. The doctor claimed that she must have
developed some reaction against the flu and antibiotics medicine that she was
prescribed earlier.

The doctor
quickly gave her some medicine to counter the reaction. But I tell you.. that
seizure was so bad that when the attack comes in, she would just shiver and
bite on her own teeth. Its like beyond her control. I was freaking out, that I wanted
to smack the doctor and send her to the hospital. The attack came in every 2-3
minutes interval.. and she turns pale at each attack. That was terribly crazy…..
but luckily, the palpitation eased down after 1 hour ++ of the medication. So
much so that she experienced heart pain towards the later stage of it.

The doctor
did an ECG scan on her heart… which resulted ok, no damage or injury to it. So….
Conclusion? Well, she was discharged.. .recovered that night itself, but with a
note to remember… we must avoid any antibiotics that contains the component of Doxycycline.
And the flu medicine that contains
the Clarinase.

Lesson learnt… if there are any abnormality occurred after you take any
medicine, always consult the doctor straight away, and don’t wait until the
effect gets worst. I did small research on that 2 scientific component that
neither one of us could understand… here it is:

Doxycycline (INN) (IPA: [ ˌdɒksɪˈsaɪklin ]) is a member of
the
tetracycline antibiotics group and is commonly used to treat
a variety of
infections. Doxycycline is a semi-synthetic
tetracycline invented and clinically developed in the early 1960s by
Pfizer Inc. and marketed under the brand name Vibramycin. Vibramycin received FDA
approval in 1967, becoming Pfizer’s first once-a-day broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Other brand names include Monodox, Periostat, Vibra-Tabs, Doryx, Vibrox,
Adoxa®, Doxyhexal and Atridox (topical doxycycline hyclate for
Periodontitis).

Cautions and side effects

Cautions
and side effects are similar to other members of the
tetracycline antibiotic group. However the 10% risk of photosensitivity skin reactions is of particular importance for those intending
long-term use for malaria prophylaxis. Reports of
GERD have been cited with the use of Doxycycline.

Unlike
some other members of the tetracycline group, it may be used in those with
renal impairment.

Doxycycline
impairs the effectiveness of many types of
hormonal contraception due to CYP450 induction, and physicians recommend the
use of barrier contraception for people taking the drug to prevent unwanted
pregnancy. It may also reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives by
decreasing the
normal flora in the intestines. This can reduce the flora’s
ability to remove
glucuronide groups off of
estrogen as it
re-enters the GI tract via
enterohepatic circulation. Estrogens are glucuronidated in the liver and
re-circulated to the gut. Therefore, Doxycycline’s effect on efficacy of oral
contraceptives can be two-fold.

It
should be taken with a full glass of water to prevent irritation of the
esophagus and stomach. Also, there is a slim risk of liver damage during
prolonged use of the drug

Loratadine is a drug
used to treat
allergies, and marketed
for its nonsedating properties. It is marketed by
Schering-Plough under several
trade names such as Claritin, Claritine, Clarityn or Clarityne
depending on the market; by
Lek as Lomilan; by Ranbaxy as Roletra; and by Wyeth as Alavert. It is also available as a generic.
In a version marketed as Claritin-D or Clarinase, loratadine is
combined with
pseudoephedrine, a decongestant; this makes it somewhat useful for
colds as well as allergies, but adds a potential side-effect of
insomnia, nervousness
and anxiety.

Side-effects

Non-sedating antihistamine

As a
non-sedating
antihistamine, loratadine causes less sedation and psychomotor impairment than the older antihistamines because it penetrates
the
blood brain barrier only to a slight extent. Any drowsiness, which is
unlikely, may diminish after a few days of treatment.

Although
drowsiness is rare, nevertheless patients should be advised that it can occur
and may affect performance of skilled tasks (e.g. driving); excess
alcohol should be avoided.

Most common
side-effects

Drowsiness, headache,
psychomotor impairment, and antimuscarinic effects such as urinary retention,
dry mouth, blurred vision, and gastrointestinal disturbances are the most
common side effects.

Other rarer side-effects

Hypotension, extrapyramidal effects, dizziness, confusion, depression, sleep
disturbances, tremor, convulsions, palpitation, arrhythmias, hypersensitivity
reactions (including bronchospasm, angioedema, and Anaphylaxis (ref below), rashes, and
photosensitivity reactions), blood disorders, liver dysfunction, and
angle-closure glaucoma are less common side effects..

Cautions and contraindications

Loratadine
should be used with caution in
hepatic disease and dose reduction may be necessary in renal impairment. Caution may be required in epilepsy. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to
side-effects (see Side-effects section above). Also contraindicated in
pregnancy and breast-feeding.

 Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is an acute systemic (multi-system) and severe Type I Hypersensitivity allergic reaction in humans and other mammals. The term comes from the Greek words ana (against) and phylaxis (protection).[1] Anaphylaxis occurs when a person or animal is exposed to a trigger substance, called an allergen,
to which they have already become sensitized. Minute amounts of
allergens may cause a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction.
Anaphylaxis may occur after ingestion, skin contact, injection of an
allergen or, in rare cases, inhalation.[2]

Anaphylactic shock, the most severe type of anaphylaxis, occurs when an allergic response triggers a quick release from mast cells of large quantities of immunological mediators (histamines, prostaglandins, leukotrienes) leading to systemic vasodilation (associated with a sudden drop in blood pressure) and edema of bronchial mucosa (resulting in bronchoconstriction and difficulty breathing). Anaphylactic shock can lead to death in a matter of minutes if left untreated.

An estimated 1.24% to 16.8% of the population of the United States
is considered "at risk" for having an anaphylactic reaction if they are
exposed to one or more allergens, especially penicillin and insect
stings. Most of these people successfully avoid their allergens and
will never experience anaphylaxis. Of those people who actually
experience anaphylaxis, up to 1% may die as a result.[3]
Anaphylaxis results in fewer than 1,000 deaths per year in the U.S.
(compared to 2.4 million deaths from all causes each year in the U.S.[1]). The most common presentation includes sudden cardiovascular collapse (88% of reported cases of severe anaphylaxis).

Happy Birthday to my lovely honey.

September 6th, 2007 by juliantwk

What a
surprise birthday party, where the surprised one was not the birthday girl. LOL.
It was a mistake from me that the “signal” sent to the girls wasn’t good enough.
I was supposed to give a miss call, but it was rather too short that no one
noticed the call. So, as me and my wife exited the lift, she noticed that why
were the lights on… that moment.. I was shit… bocor liao. So, she quickly open
the door, which caught all the girls in there with their jaw dropped… everyone
was stunned. There was a momentary pause for like, some good 30 seconds.. then
suddenly the “SURPRISE!” was shouted. Hahahahaha… I reckon it was the girls
that was caught by surprise, not the birthday girl.

Well, my
mistake… I admit it, for not giving a strong signal to them. But nevertheless,
it was worthwhile. Worth every energy and penny I put out for this small little

Surprise” party. It took me around
2 weeks plus to organize it with Sheri, over the phone. It wasn’t easy to organize
it, having my wife being so close to me all the time, and also Sheri being her
colleague… so we had to “curi-curi” sms or call each other. Hahahaha.

I took a
full day leave yesterday, but acted as if it was just another regular day to
work. So I sent my wife to work… and off I went in pursuit to prepare the
party. I headed straight to the party stuff shop at PJ, and only to find that
it was no longer there. Darn! So nvm, proceed with the groceries at Central
hypermarket at OUG… text Sheri for emergency help..

“Where else
can I find the party stuffs?!” Then she replied.. The Curve… Darn…nvm la.. I go
back Kinrara first…

Before I started
the gruesome preparation… I cooked myself a hearty meal.. make sure I’m full
and have all the energy I need to last me one full day…. Makan! Then took a cat
nap…. Woke up at 2pm… ok, time to hit the stores. Headed straight to The Curve…
went to Cold Storage.. darn… couldn’t find the snacks I wanted. So headed to LG
to Party World.. bought the Happy Birthday Banner, helium filled plastic
balloon… and etc.. I then went next door to Tesco to grab some snacks, and…. a WOK!
… yes.. a wok. Coz I realized that I don’t have a wok big enough to cook large
meals. Lol.

Reached
home at 4pm… gosh.. thank god the traffic was being kind to me. Reach home…
straight cooked the beehoon, and all the food stuffs. Called Domino’s pizza for
2 large pizzas and chicken wings… which, in return I got a free pizza voucher
cos they came late! Also put up the simple decors, and suddenly my wife called
saying she can leave early!

Oh no! Why
didn’t my informer tell me?! They were supposed to have meeting til late.

So no
choice.. at that moment Ah Mui called me to say that it is better that I drop
the keys at LeeYee’s mailbox and head straight to pick her.. ok loh.. I went
over to LeeYee’s place… said hi to Duke the dog, and drop the keys in her
mailbox so that Duke won’t bark at me. Hahaha..

This moment
onwards, the traffic was no longer kind to me…. Jam all the way from puchong..
even I detoured to NKVE, the traffic was horrendous there too! Bloody.. but as
soon as I got a clear path ahead.. the little kancil ran out of breath… nooo…
go faster baby.. faster faster… So I finally reached Phileo at .. 7.15pm. I had
to pull full hats of tricks and lies to my wife why I opted to bring her to
Puchong for dinner, instead of downtown KL… I can’t remember what I’ve told
her, but it was hell lots of lies… hahaha.

Cimg2056Where did
it all went from there? Go up to the first paragraph. Well, as long as everyone’s
happy.. it is all worthwhile.
:) Happy Birthday Honey…. And thanks
to all my friends whom help and I hope everyone enjoyed the simple meal I prepared.
:)

Malaysia International Fireworks Competition 2007

September 4th, 2007 by juliantwk

For those that missed it… all i can say, u’ve just missed something so spectacular, right at your own backyard. It was really marvelous that it worth the hours i spent at putrajaya to get a good spot and also being under 3 hours of rain. Really worth it.

I reached there bout 6pm to get this spot:

Cimg1878

It’s the "front row" facing the Jambatan Seri Gemilang, where the fireworks are let off. I did not purchase the ticket at the Convention Center, which is right behind that spot i camped, high on a hill. Why? well, erm… lets just say.. lazy. It was a musical fireworks competition, so that means i missed half the excitement. Only fireworks and no music for me. But hey, better than nothing right?

Cimg1891
Here is a shot of Jambatan Seri Gemilang at night.. awesome huh?!

Anyway, it was really good as we were facing it, so.. it was really very very close to it. Awesome, but at times, scary due to the loud boom and the having the fireworks as if its going to land on you.. LOL. Anyway, here are some of the shots i’ve taken. The rest.. i’ve uploaded it here… pardon me.. armature pictures.. but heck.. itz still cool, at least for me. Fireworks at Putrajaya

Mad about JD

August 29th, 2007 by juliantwk

JD, or Jack Daniel in full. This one of the many things me and my wife have in common. Craze for liquor,  except I’m mad for Absolut Vodka.

She just bout this pair of limited edition JDs.

Cimg1830

The one in the leather sleeve would be the JD monogram. More details about it? Refer this URL: JD Monogram at Shotglass

Another is the Silver Select JD, and again.. refer this URL: Silver Select at Shotglass

Looks like i’ll need to get another glass cabinet for her collection already… hahaha.

Good by Ole..

August 29th, 2007 by juliantwk

To cut things short.. I’m so lazy to write about him, perhaps if you’re interested.. please google his name. He is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.. Manchester United’s Legend. We all know him for his skills, his goals, his baby-faced looks, his humble and down to earth attitude.

Its said that he had to retire due to a prolonged knee injury, at the age of 34. A right age for sportsman, but to be honest, he had be in and out of the treatment room since 4 years ago.

Which prompted me to fork out 240 for the latest manchester united jersey to have his name Solskjaer and Number 20 printed on the jersey. Well.. they ran out of the letter "S", so i just bout the jersey, and left my contacts for them to call me once the stock has arrived… that would cost me another RM100 for the name and number.

Well, i’m ok with the price, at least as a tribute to a living legend. Long Live Ole. :)

Abrasion on knee is the worst place to get it

August 26th, 2007 by juliantwk

Goodness gracious… this is probably one of the worst place to get abrasion… the damn knee!!!

it has been 4 days already and the abrasion on my knee still refuses to heal. It would heal, crack.. bleed, blistered, and then heal again.. and keep going in circles.

Itz bad enuf that a simple walk is so painful.. damn la. Hopefully it recovers in time for the next futsal match.

All i need to do know is.. try to minimize movement of my left leg.. to avoid bending, which would result in breaking of the wound. Adoiiii….. my aching leg.

What’s the story (Morning Glory) - OASIS

August 20th, 2007 by juliantwk

For those whom grew up in the 90’s are sure to grow up with the Oasis’s 2nd album, as stated in the title. I definitely grew up with this song, and still listening to it. Oasis has recorded many exciting albums, but I personally feel this is the best. Really fantastic that I reckon that it is worth labeled as a classic Rock music.

The tune’s really catchy that it will stay in your mind for years. Even a non English music listener or non rock music listener will develop a liking for their songs, especially Some Might Say, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, She’s Electric, Don’t Look back in Anger and Cast no Shadow.

For me, it is definitely 3 factors that triggered my liking for them, #1 Liam Gallagher’s unique voice, #2 Superb tune, #3 Unique music lyrics… not the regular I love you, you love me, I hate you, you hate me, world sucks.. i hate the world lyrics by alot of those rock wannabe bands.

They are really original.. if you get what I mean. I’m sure those whom heard of their songs will definitely agree with me. For those whom hasn’t …… please….. shed some light to yourself and get this album to get enlightened. ;)

Who are Oasis? Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey.

Formed in Manchester in 1991. Led by lead guitarist and primary songwriter Noel Gallagher and his younger brother, lead vocalist and songwriter Liam Gallagher, Oasis are one of the most successful groups to emerge during the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s. In 2005, The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles And Albums declared Oasis the "Most Successful Act of the Last Decade in the UK."Oasis have sold more than 60 million records worldwide, and have had eight UK number one singles. Liam and Noel Gallagher are
the only original band members, the present lineup is completed by
rhythm/lead guitarist Gem Archer, bass guitarist Andy Bell and drummer Zak Starkey.

Oasis - Wikipedia

A little intro of the album from wikipedia:

200pxoasis__whats_the_story_morning_glor

The success of Morning Glory catapulted Oasis from being a
successful Britpop band to being one of the biggest bands in Britain,
with substantial international fame, and considerable press coverage in
the mainstream and music press. The band played several massive open
air concerts in the UK during 1996, which included two nights at Knebworth in front of a combined audience of 250,000 people (125,000 each night), with over 2.5 million applying to buy tickets.

The title of the album is said to have been inspired by a friend of Noel Gallagher, who used the phrase during a telephone conversation. The phrase "Morning Glory" is British slang, referring to an erection experienced after waking up. The title is further possibly explained by the pair’s use of the hallucinogenic ‘Morning glory‘ seeds

  1. "Hello" (Gallagher/Glitter/Leander) – 3:21
  2. "Roll with It" – 3:59
  3. "Wonderwall" – 4:18
  4. "Don’t Look Back in Anger" – 4:48
  5. "Hey Now!" – 5:41
  6. Untitled (aka "The Swamp Song - Excerpt 1") – 0:44
  7. "Some Might Say" – 5:29
  8. "Cast No Shadow" – 4:51
  9. "She’s Electric" – 3:40
  10. "Morning Glory" – 5:03
  11. Untitled (aka "The Swamp Song - Excerpt 2") – 0:39
  12. "Champagne Supernova" – 7:27

Notes:

  • Tracks 6 and 11 are officially untitled. In fact, the track listing bears no title whatsoever for these songs, merely a blank space.
  • The excerpts from "The Swamp Song" are parts of the instrumental B-side to the "Wonderwall" single.
  • The vinyl LP edition of the album features a bonus track, "Bonehead’s Bank Holiday". This song appears as the 7th track on the album, immediately after the 44-second untitled track.
  • "Step Out"
had to be removed from the album at the last minute. The song, sung by
Noel, was intended to have been the original track 8 (after "Some Might Say" and before "Cast No Shadow"), but was removed as the chorus was similar to the chorus of Stevie Wonder’s 1965 track "Uptight (Everything’s Alright)".
Wonder’s publishing company were alleged to have demanded a substantial
amount of royalties from the album which Oasis weren’t prepared to pay,
so the track was removed, although not before the first promotional
copies of the album had been released with "Step Out" included. The
track was eventually released as a B-side on Oasis’ 1996 single "Don’t Look Back in Anger", with an amended song writing credit of ‘Gallagher/Wonder/Cosby/May’, and was included on the live album Familiar to Millions.

Once you get this album…… listen to it… love it…. and move on to their other albums, like the Definitely Maybe, Be Here Now, The Masterplan, Standing on Shoulder of Giants, Familiar To Millions, Heathen Chemistry, Don’t Believe in Truths.

So… Happy listening, and please… listen to the original rock band. Not, the wannabes out there, whom are trying very hard to be like Oasis, Greenday or any other great rock bands.

Paintball.. not for the faint of hearts

August 19th, 2007 by juliantwk

Cimg1583
Finally had my run in paintball. It isn’t as easy as I though it might have been. To sum up my thoughts in points

#1 Its tiring, coz theres alot of stop & go sprints.. gotta be an Olympic sprinter..
#2 Its painful!!!  no joke.. u’ll get blisters for those close range shots on open skin,  and even thin clothes.
#3 Its really fun.. lol.. wouldn’t mind going for more games, but must put on proper gear.

Check out this picture of my partner’s "wound"… thats just 5 minutes after we were shot "dead" by the opposing team. We adopted a wrong strategy to charge, coz we got ambushed badly. He was in the front line, while i was the back, supposedly to cover him… he got 4 shots, 2 on his arm, one on his chest, another on his back.

Cimg1582

See how bad is this. Blister pop immediately… which is why i said it isn’t for the faint of hearts. I got shot straight on my face mask… as you can see fr the first picture. So imagine if this is real life war, I would have had my head blown into pieces. LOL.

A little brief on the type of game we played. The type of scenario paintball we played is called the Urban Field. The field is made up of old houses, some huts,
trees in the compound and bunkers. This is layout is
good for Close Quarter Combat (CQB) and scenarios like
search and rescue, protect the president etc. etc.

So our mission was to shoot down as many "enemy" as possible, while trying to retrieve the flag at their base and return to our base, in one piece of course.

Well, we lost in our first attempt.. coz our offense team was gunned down real fast, and our defense team was out numbered. They ran out of bullets trying to protect our base.

2nd and 3rd game ended up in a tie as we adapted a more defensive approach. I survived the 2nd game, but somehow, 1st and 3rd game, i seems to get head shots. Funny.. my head must be too big. LOL. But i did get a shot ricocheted off my hips… which resulted a bruise.. darn. No joke.. the shooter was easily more than 20 feet away from when i got shot. Imagine if its close range… i would succumbed to the same injury as my partner.

But hooray to Team 4.. we got 3rd place. At least something in return for getting 2 head shots.. hahaha.

Oh yea, we played at Mudtrekker, which is located at Kuang, Selangor.. more details at Mudtrekker Paintball

Vollyball game

August 17th, 2007 by juliantwk

Caught a game of volleyball, for the first time. It was the round-robin
match between Ernst & Young and Deloitte. Goodness gracious, why
didn’t anyone tell me that it is an exciting game? It was a game of
speed.. really, IMHO, i believe it is 80% speed, and 20% positioning. A
player can’t afford a single second of concentration lapses or else the
opponent would smash the daylight out of you.

Anyway, EY won hands down, although Deloitte did fought back at the 2nd
set. It was a close comeback, but EY held on to win 2-0. Good game.

Some screen captures.

Cimg1425
Cimg1426
Cimg1427
Cimg1428

But Deloitte has a battalion of supporters, especially one lady, whom
really stood out. She wore the large Minnie Mouse ears and a held an
air horn. She was screaming the whole evening. Kept cheering the
Deloitte team…

Deloitte"Come on! Deloitte!"
"You can do it! Deloitte!"
"Its ok Deloitte!"

Man.. her voice really drown every other sound in the hall. Kudos to
their supporting team. This why pundits always say that the supporters
are the next team player. They are the ones that pushes the team to
play harder.
